Gerrup! It's the Poetry Bus!

Tis my turn to captain the Poetry Bus!

I'll keep this quick and to the point.

Creativity should take you new places so,

You have to:

1. Go somewhere new.

2. Experience it.

3. Write about it.

If you like, you can write about an old memory that comes to mind while there (this often happens when somewhere new- if it doesn't, just write about the experience)

And you can link the experience and the memory if you're feeling adventurous.

The poem cannot be more than 40 lines long

The poem shouldn't rhyme. Aim for similar line length, giving a nice shape to the poem.

ie none of this -

I wandered lonely as a cloud
Pissing on flowers was disallowed.

I like this rule because it means I have to avoid rhyming, its one of my filthiest habits.

Seeing as this is just a bit of fun, that's not a hard and fast rule.

But break it and I will find you and kill you.

Also - somewhere new can be anywhere. But try and be imaginative, you're an artist, ya lazy bum.

Some places are off limits.

-Your house.
-Anywhere within a mile of home.
-The Moon.

Go forth and poetify, my passengers.

See yiz on Monday.

Ooh I'm excited! I had already planned to go somewhere new tomorrow & now it's an assignment so I can't slough it off. Cool!

Maybe this will get me out of the yardwork the hubbie wants me to help with this weekend! "Can't honey, already seen the yard!"

Sod the Bus, any excuse to get out of the house is good enough for me!

I like the photo of the poetry bus. But what if my mileage counter only measures km? How do I know when I'm far enough away?

Thanks for visiting folks! Looking forward to some quality poems.

I've gone to a strange destination already, to get my ticket for your bus!

Okay Uiscebot,
on the day of the supermoon
as I swoon
two months before June...
I'll take you all on a journey to the Motor City.
It's what we do... here:

Hey, I missed your last instruction about the moon, and as I stayed up last night to visit it, it being only 221,565 miles away, I guess you are just going to have to kill me!

Nice to meetcha. Your prompt will turn the Bus into a whale of a travelogue. I'm going somewhere new today so we'll see.

A serious question: Thank you for telling us about your mother's poetry. (I read here and there around your blog.) I went to Bradshaw and read about it. But now I want to read a sample of her work, a poem, see? Can you give me something?
Thanks from Chris, the Enchanted Oak.

Thanks for all the poems - I'm sticking em all in the bag for monday.

Enchanted Oak, I think you're talking about Women with Altitude.

It was actually written by Bonnie Quinn Cotter - the lovely Mother of a friend of mine.

Nice to know you read around the blog!

OK, here's my less than exciting ticket:

The poem is just ok, it was the experience that wasn't :)

Hello, Uiscebots (rhymes with juice boxz?)!

I have been sorely lacking in poetic everything lately, and I'm jumping aboard to prove it:

That would be about 1.6km, Niamh, before you could safely start poeticising. Unless you were to go in circles, I wonder what counts - a mile of travel, or a mile away? How many times around the yard would that be?

My ticket is here:

Here it is, Monday, but where are your passenger's details for the ticket inspector to clip?? !! Has the Bus broken down, or the driver lost his licence? LOL :)
